Sources: Big update on Liverpool race to sign Takefusa Kubo, Man United could trigger release clause

Man United and Liverpool are both eyeing moves for Real Sociedad star Takefusa Kubo, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that the Japan international has a release clause of £51million, and the Premier League giants are “huge” admirers of the attacker.

Well-placed sources told Football Insider that the rival clubs are monitoring the 22-year-old for next season and will not trigger his clause this month.

It is believed that Man United need to sanction player sales before they can finance any deals in the summer, while Liverpool are assessing him as a potential long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah.

Kubo has had a prolific season with the La Liga side, scoring six goals and providing four assists across 26 appearances in all competitions.

The versatile forward is reportedly keen to stay with Sociedad, who topped their Champions League group and are in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, for the remainder of the season.

Kubo signed for Sociedad in 2022 on a five-year deal from Real Madrid, where he was sent out on four loan spells to Villarreal, Getafe and Mallorca twice.

He broke into the senior Japan side in 2019 and has since made 32 appearances and scored three goals.
