Sources: Big update on Man United agreeing £20m Callum Wilson deal
Man United are not likely to seal a late-window swoop for Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson, sources have told Football Insider.
Reports have suggested that United are “on alert” over a potential move for the 31-year-old in the final week of the window.
However, it is believed the Red Devils will not be able to afford any such deal for Wilson due to significant Financial Fair Play restraints at Old Trafford.
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (23 January) that Newcastle will demand a total package worth £20million if Wilson is to leave the club this month.
The Magpies are only willing to accept permanent and obligation-to-buy offers for the England international – and have already rejected a loan bid from Atletico Madrid for his services.
Man United spent heavily on the likes of Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund last summer and have been unable to complete a deal so far in January.
Hojlund has managed just two Premier League strikes this season and backup striker Anthony Martial is set to miss the rest of the 2023-24 campaign through injury.
The Magpies are having to consider offers for several of their first-team stars due to Financial Fair Play constraints at St James’ Park.
Miguel Almiron and Kieran Trippier are among the other players currently under offer with days left until the 1 February transfer deadline.

On Wilson, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe claimed the decision on his future is “out of his control”.
The ex-Bournemouth striker has hit eight goals in 20 appearances across all competitions so far in the 2023-24 campaign.
