Sources: Big update on Pochettino’s future at Chelsea

The Chelsea hierarchy are not set to rush into sacking manager Mauricio Pochettino, sources have told Football Insider.

Pochettino’s side sit 12th in the Premier League following the 2-0 defeat against Everton on Sunday (10 December).

Speaking post-match, the Argentine claimed that mid-table is now Chelsea’s “reality” despite their lavish transfer spending in recent years.

It is believed pressure is growing on Pochettino as a result of poor away form and inconsistency that has riddled their performances this term.

But a well-placed source has maintained that the ex-Tottenham boss is undertaking a “long-term project” at Stamford Bridge.

A top-four finish was the target for Chelsea chiefs at the start of the 2023-24 campaign but Pochettino will be given time to fix on-field problems and address the balance of his underperforming squad.

The Blues have won just five of their 16 Premier League games so far this season and have conceded 26 goals in the top flight.

Pochettino’s side are without European football this term after a lacklustre 12th-place finish in the 2022-23 campaign.

The big spenders brought in 12 new faces for huge money in the summer window but find themselves in the same position as the festive schedule approaches.

Chelsea

Chelsea, who have lost their last two games, are next in action against Sheffield United on Saturday (16 December).

The Blues are still in the League Cup and face off against Newcastle in the quarter-finals next week (19 December).

In other news, Chelsea expected to block Fulham move for forward.
