Sources: Big update on Timo Werner’s Tottenham future as new details emerge
Tottenham have no plans to make Timo Werner’s loan permanent in the summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The forward moved to N17 this month from RB Leipzig for the remainder of the season, but well-placed sources have told Football Insider that he is expected to return to Germany in the summer.
Werner’s deal reportedly has a £15million option to buy with Spurs covering his full salary during his stay at the London giants.
However, Ange Postecoglou’s side currently are not intent on triggering this option unless he has a stellar second half of the season.
The 27-year-old has so far made two appearances for Tottenham, earning his second Premier League debut with a start against Man United on 14 January and an FA Cup start in their 1-0 loss to Man City on Friday (26 January).
He has secured one goal contribution in his opening outings – an assist for Rodrigo Bentancur’s equaliser against the Red Devils.
Werner was the first of Tottenham’s January signings before the permanent addition of Radu Dragusin from Serie A side Genoa for a reported £26million.
They remain in the frame for a new central midfielder this month, with Football Insider revealing (26 January) that they are readying a shock last-gasp bid to prise Conor Gallagher from Chelsea, who value him at £80million.

Tottenham sit fifth in the Premier League and were recently knocked out of the FA Cup by Man City on Friday evening (26 January).
They will next face Brentford in the league on Wednesday evening (31 January).
