Sources: Birmingham City make approach to sign Sunderland star Pritchard

Birmingham City have made an approach to sign Sunderland attacker Alex Pritchard, sources have told Football Insider.

Pritchard is out of contract in the summer at Sunderland and there has been no offer of a new deal as yet.

Former Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray is keen to raid his old club for Pritchard as he looks to be reunited with the attacking midfielder at St Andrew’s.

The 30-year-old has been a strong creative outlet for the Black Cats this season having notched five assists and one goal across nine starts in the second tier.

He has been a key man for manager Michael Beale in recent weeks having started the last three games in the league.

The Englishman scored his first goal of the season in their 2-0 win against Preston North End on New Year’s Day.

Pritchard’s versatility has seen him fielded as a centre-forward, an attacking midfielder and a right midfielder this season.

Since joining Sunderland in the summer of 2021, he has made 115 appearances in all competitions with nine goals and 25 assists to his name.

The Blues are in the market for attacking reinforcements this month, with Football Insider revealing (20 January) that they have opened talks to sign Blackburn Rovers striker Sam Gallagher this month on loan for the remainder of the season.
