Sources: Blackburn Rovers agree to sign Wolves defender Ryan Giles

Blackburn Rovers have agreed a deal to sign Wolves defender Ryan Giles on loan for the rest of the season, Football Insider understands.

As revealed by this site yesterday (30 January), the Championship outfit were preparing a late-window move for the 22-year-old after move back to Cardiff City fell through.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider Rovers have agreed terms of a temporary deal and are set to push through a move before tonight’s deadline.

The wing-back enjoyed a superb first half of the season on loan with Cardiff.

He was the league’s leading assist-maker when Wolves boss Bruno Lage recalled him at the start of January.

His return came as a result of missing players in the first-team squad at Molineux.

Giles was then given the green light to leave temporarily once again following the return of senior stars and new signings arriving at Molineux.

Cardiff were keen to re-sign their former loan star.

Giles contributed a staggering nine assists for Steve Morison’s side in the first half of the campaign.

However, the Bluebirds grew frustrated waiting for Wolves and instead moved for Stoke’s Alfie Doughty.

The promising defender now looks set to join promotion-chasing Blackburn after negotiations with Wolves in the past 24 hours.

A move to Ewood Park would be the fifth loan transfer of Giles’ career.

The Wanderers academy product has had temporary spells at Shrewsbury Town, Coventry, Rotherham and Cardiff.

Wolves

The wing-back has made just one first-team appearance for Wolves in a 2-2 FA Cup draw with Shrewsbury Town.

His contract at Molineux runs until the summer of 2025.

In other news, it can be revealed Bournemouth had agreed a fee with Blackburn Rovers for Joe Rothwell.
