Sources: Blackburn Rovers in advanced talks to sign Bournemouth star Gavin Kilkenny

Blackburn Rovers are in advanced talks to sign Bournemouth midfielder Gavin Kilkenny, sources have told Football Insider.

Kilkenny, 22, has spent the first half of the season on loan at Stoke, but that deal is set to be cancelled to allow him to join Blackburn.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has made just four appearances during his loan stint at Stoke and Bournemouth have recalled him as they want the midfielder to be playing more regular first-team football.

Blackburn have a deal in place to sign Kilkenny ahead of Championship rivals and are confident of securing a full agreement.

Kilkenny has not played for Stoke during 9 September, in an EFL Cup tie against Morecambe which the Potters lost on penalties.

He has only made three Championship appearances and none since he started against Sunderland on 9 August.

The midfielder has been on the bench for Stoke’s last five Championship games after failing to make a matchday squad for nearly two months.

Kilkenny has made 24 senior appearances for Bournemouth but is now set to continue his career at Ewood Park.

Kilkenny is also currently an Ireland Under-21 international and he has made 20 appearances for his country at that level.

Bournemouth

Blackburn are third in the Championship though they have lost two of their last three games.

They are next in action against Rotherham on Saturday (14 January).

In other news, sources have told this site that Bournemouth are in advanced talks to sign Crystal Palace target Dango Ouattara.
