Sources: Blackburn Rovers set to open Pickering talks
Blackburn Rovers are planning new contract talks with defender Harry Pickering, Football Insider understands.
The 23-year-old, who joined Blackburn from Crewe in January of 2021, has established himself as a key man in Tony Mowbray’s side.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Rovers are keen to offer Pickering fresh terms as a reward for his progress at Ewood Park and talks are set to open soon.
His current contract is due to expire in the summer of 2025.
Pickering has made 22 appearances for Blackburn this season and has been a key component of Mowbray’s 3-4-3 system.
The defender has registered three goal contributions in his first season in the Championship.
Pickering came through the ranks at Crewe, signing professional terms with the club in 2016.
He made his first-team debut in April 2017, coming on as a substitute against Leyton Orient.
The left-footer penned a fresh three-year deal with the Railwaymen in September 2020 and was named captain of the side just three months later.
Pickering sealed his move to Ewood Park in the January 2021 transfer window, with the Lancashire side paying a reported £650,000 for his services.
He was subsequently loaned back to Crewe for the rest of the season.
The left-back has already made almost 200 career appearances, contributing 12 goals and 15 assists.

Blackburn sit fourth in the Championship, just four points adrift of automatic promotion.
Mowbray’s side face league leaders Fulham on Saturday (5 March).
