Sources: Bolton Wanderers agree to sign Kachunga after Sheffield Wednesday exit

Ex-Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield forward Elias Kachunga has agreed to join Bolton Wanderers, Football Insider has learned.

He has already put pen to paper on a two-year contract.

A Bolton source has told Football Insider Kachunga is joining on a free transfer as he is out of contract following his Wednesday exit at the start of last month.

Manager Ian Evatt revealed, via the Bolton News, yesterday (5 August) he was confident of completing a deal for a new striker.

He has now got his man to replace the injured Xavier Amaechi ahead of this weekend’s season opener.

Amaechi moved to the League One club from Hamburger SV on loan earlier this summer but fractured his metatarsal against Preston North End in pre-season.

Kachunga is a much more experienced option than the 20-year-old but he has not been prolific in recent seasons.

The DR Congo international failed to score in 29 Championship appearances for Wednesday last term with his only goal coming in the Carabao Cup.

He moved to Hillsborough last summer after earning cult hero status with Huddersfield.

The striker scored 17 times and provided 10 assists in 128 games across all competitions for the Terriers.

Kachunga was part of the squad that earned promotion to the Premier League and he scored once and provided one assist in 39 top-flight games.

Bolton Wanderers begin their League One campaign with a home game against MK Dons on tomorrow (7 August).

In other news, an English club has agreed to sign a Manchester City international midfielder.
