Sources: Bordeaux in advanced talks to sign Man United defender Phil Jones as stance revealed

Man United defender Phil Jones is in advanced talks with Bordeaux over a loan move to France, Football Insider can reveal.

Bordeaux have set their sights on the 29-year-old and are confident of tying up a deal ahead of the transfer deadline.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that United are willing to loan out Jones so that he can build up his fitness after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

It is understood that the centre-half is keen on a move to Ligue 1 in search of regular game time in a bid to reignite his career.

Jones has made just one senior appearance for the Red Devils this season.

He started and impressed in the 1-0 loss to Wolves at Old Trafford on 3 January.

The defeat was the English defender’s first outing for the club in 707 days.

Knee injuries have plagued Jones in what has been a challenging few years for the former England star.

He has 18 months remaining on his current contract at Old Trafford.

Ralf Rangnick has given the green light for Jones to leave the club given his wealth of options at centre-half.

Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly should all be available when Manchester United return to Premier League action on 8 February.
