Sources: Bournemouth in ‘ongoing’ contract talks with in-demand Andoni Iraola

Bournemouth are in “ongoing” talks with manager Andoni Iraola about a contract extension, sources have told Football Insider.

Iraola has less than a year left on his current deal, and the Cherries are desperate to get the Spaniard tied down for the long term.

After a damaging transfer window for Bournemouth, in which they lost the likes of Illia Zabarnyi, Dean Huijsen, and Milos Kerkez, many thought they would struggle this season.

However, the south coast side have done quite the opposite and are thriving at the start of the new campaign, sitting fourth in the Premier League as it stands.

Bournemouth ‘hopeful’ they can agree Andoni Iraola deal

Sources say that Bournemouth are “hopeful” that they can tie Iraola down to a new deal, which would help fend off the interest in their manager.

The 43-year-old was handed a two-year contract at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, after a successful first season on the south coast.

Since then, Iraola and Bournemouth have gone from strength to strength, their progress culminating in a top-half finish in the Premier League last term.

However, the Cherries’ success does have its pitfalls, as it highlights the clear qualities of their Basque manager to potentially interested parties.

Iraola attracting interest from big clubs

It is no surprise that there are constantly rumours linking Iraola to some of Europe’s top clubs, considering the job he has done at the Vitality Stadium.

The Cherries’ unique, high-pressing style of play has earned the Spanish manager a lot of admirers in the Premier League and abroad.

Iraola has been touted as a potential replacement for Ruben Amorim if the Portuguese boss were to lose his job at Manchester United.

The Spaniard was also linked with Real Madrid earlier this year, as well as emerging as a contender for the managerial role at Tottenham before Thomas Frank was appointed.
