Sources: Brendan Rodgers could quit Celtic amid growing ‘unrest’
Brendan Rodgers could quit Celtic upon the expiry of his contract next year amid growing unrest behind the scenes at Parkhead.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the 52-year-old’s position with just one year remaining on his deal.
Hoops fans have begun to express their frustrations towards the board after an underwhelming transfer window, with frustrations being made clear by chants of “sack the board”.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 2 September that Rodgers is unhappy with the Celtic board given their lack of urgency or clear recruitment plan.
Kelechi Iheanacho‘s arrival after the deadline has eased the concerns about the striker situation, but supporters are airing their frustrations at a lack of ambition.
Meanwhile, industry expert Mick Brown warned Football Insider in June that Rodgers could be tempted to leave Celtic if his ambitions are not backed in the transfer window.

Brendan Rodgers opens door to Celtic departure
Football Insider revealed on 29 August that Rodgers has opened the door to leaving Celtic as no talks have taken place over his long-term future.
The manager’s concerns about whether his ambitions are shared by the board have now been echoed by the fans at Parkhead with a turbulent atmosphere behind the scenes.
O’Rourke explained that the growing unrest around the club could have a direct impact on Rodgers’ future with a big decision set to be made.
“The transfer window could have an influence on his future,” he told Football Insider.
“Rodgers has been quite vocal and public that he wanted the club to back him in the transfer market.
“He wanted players in before the Champions League qualifiers which didn’t arrive, and of course Celtic ended up crashing out of the competition.

“It’s been a very underwhelming transfer window for Celtic, there’s no getting away from it.
“There have been protests from the fans and chants of ‘Sack the board’, so there’s a bit of unrest going on behind the scenes at the moment.
“Brendan Rodgers was unhappy with the way they did their business.
“It’ll be a frustrating time for him, but whether it has any direct impact on his long-term future at Celtic remains to be seen.
“He’s not too happy because he wanted to build on a success of last season, but that hasn’t happened.”
Josh Brownhill decides next club as Celtic race Leeds and Wolves
After completing the signing of Iheanacho as a free agent following the end of the transfer window, Celtic had also been linked with a move for Josh Brownhill.
However, Football Insider revealed on 5 September that Celtic are set to miss out on Brownhill, who has decided to join Saudi Pro League outfit Al Shabab.

Leeds United, Wolves and Leicester had also shown an interest in the midfielder, who is expected to put pen to paper on a deal to earn £100,000 per week.
This comes after Football Insider revealed that Celtic felt they had an advantage to sign Brownhill with the allure of European football which their rivals couldn’t offer.
