Sources: Brentford in new move for Joey Veerman ahead of January, release clause revealed

Brentford are lining up a fresh attempt to sign PSV Eindhoven star Joey Veerman in January as news of a release clause can be revealed, sources have told Football Insider.

The Bees had the 27-year-old firmly among their list of summer targets, but ultimately failed to secure his signature ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, despite tabling an offer of £28million.

Brentford have enquired about AC Milan striker Santiago Gimenez ahead of the January window, and they also seem intent on adding to their ranks in the centre of midfield, with Veerman a clear target once again.

Keith Andrews’ Brentford side have surprised plenty of people in the Premier League so far this term, and they could now secure a striking move for the PSV star to strengthen their hand even further.

Veerman’s £20m release clause can be activated in January

Football Insider exclusively revealed that Tottenham are interested in Brentford star Kevin Schade ahead of January, while Igor Thiago has also notably been subject to interest.

However, the West Londoners have aspirations of their own in the market, and Veerman is firmly among their list of targets as the mid-season window approaches.

Brentford’s offer for the midfielder failed in the summer as PSV deemed their attempt to have arrived too late for them to secure a replacement, and they stood in the way of a deal as a result.

However, sources have now told Football Insider that Veerman’s contract with the Dutch giants contains a £20m release clause, which can be activated from the start of 2026.

That looks set to tempt the Premier League side into doing business for the star, with a fresh attempt to secure his signature already being plotted at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Veerman is second in the Eredivisie for goal contributions

Thiago’s recent form for Brentford has meant that goals and creativity have been of little concern to Andrews and his staff so far in 2025-26.

Nevertheless, the addition of Veerman to their group would undoubtedly provide even more firepower for them in the second half of the season.

The former Heerenveen man is second in the entire Eredivisie in terms of goal contributions, with five goals and six assists to his name from the opening 11 league games.

The quality that he provides can be highlighted further by the fact that his xG and xA stats add up to just 4.2 so far this term, meaning he is drastically outperforming where he should be in terms of his creative performances.

Brentford may have failed to land Veerman in the summer, but with his release clause coming into play in January, it could be a different story this time around.
