Sources: Brentford set to sign Wolves star Collins after breakthrough in talks

Brentford are closing in on the signing of Wolves defender Nathan Collins after a breakthrough in talks, sources have told Football Insider.

The Londoners have had a number of bids rejected for the 22-year-old this summer, but the two clubs are inching closer to an agreement.

Brentford are hopeful of finalising the deal with Wolves this week as they look to make Collins their third signing of the summer.

The Midlands club have reluctantly agreed to sell Collins just a year after his arrival at Burnley to bring in much-needed funds to ease their fears over Financial Fair Play regulations.

Collins was a regular for Wolves in the first half of last season but lost his place at the turn of the year following the arrival of Craig Dawson.

He made 31 appearances across all competitions for the Molineux club as they staved off the threat of relegation to record a mid-table finish under manager Julen Lopetegui.

Collins cost a reported £20.5million last summer (2022) – making him the most expensive Irish player of all time.

He signed a contract running until June 2027 which earns him a reported wage of £20,000-a-week.

The Stoke City academy product has racked up 100 senior club appearances – with 45 of those outings coming in the Premier League.

He has also racked up 14 caps for the Republic of Ireland, scoring once.

Wolves

Brentford have already completed deals for Kevin Schade and Mark Flekken this summer as they look to build on last season’s ninth-place finish.

Meanwhile, Wolves have already parted with captain Ruben Neves – who has joined Saudi outfit Al-Hilal in a deal worth a reported £47million.
