Sources: Brentford star Matthew Cox undergoing Bristol Rovers medical

Brentford have agreed a deal to send heir highly-rated England U20 goalkeeper Matthew Cox to Bristol Rovers on a season-long loan, sources have told Football Insider.

Cox, 20, who spent a large part of last season as understudy to No.1 David Raya is being allowed to leave in order to gain some valuable first-team experience and he is set to undergo a medical at Bristol Rovers today.

As many as five EFL clubs have made loan enquiries to Brentford for Cox and the Premier League club have decided to send the keeper to League One hopefuls Bristol Rovers.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank rates Cox highly and sees him as the future No.1 keeper at Brentford.

Current number one Raya, who has entered the final year of his contract, is widely expected to move on this summer.

The keeper’s current contract with the London club runs until 2028 after penning a bumper new six-year agreement last year.

Last month (28 June), Football Insider revealed that the Bees were open to letting the shot-stopper leave on loan this summer.

The keeper was a stand-out performer for England at last years Under-19 European Championship in Slovakia and was included in the team of the tournament.
