Sources: Brentford stuck over David Raya after Tottenham twist

Brentford are stuck in a difficult position over the future of goalkeeper David Raya, sources have told Football Insider.

The 27-year-old was the subject of interest from Tottenham, Man United and Chelsea heading into the summer window.

However, that interest has cooled with Spurs and United recently addressing their goalkeeping issues with respective deals for Guglielmo Vicario and Andre Onana.

Additionally, new Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino looks set to persevere with divisive shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga with the new season on the horizon.

Raya is reportedly valued by Brentford at £40million – with interested sides unwilling to meet that price tag with just one year remaining on the shot-stopper’s contract.

Bayern Munich have become the latest side to show an interest in the Spain international but are yet to get close to the Bees’ demands.

The standoff leaves both player and club in a tricky situation with just two weeks to go before the first game of the new season.

Brentford moved to sign a replacement for Raya early in the summer window, with Freiburg goalkeeper Mark Flekken joining the club for a reported £11million.

Raya has travelled to the United States for Brentford’s pre-season fixtures but Flekken has been preferred in recent games against Fulham and Brighton.

The former Blackburn shot-stopper could depart for free when his contract expires next summer, and can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January.

Raya made 39 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign – conceding 47 goals and keeping 12 clean sheets.

He has broken into the Spain national side since being promoted to the Premier League with Brentford, making two appearances.
