Brighton & Hove Albion are plotting a move to sign free agent Wilfried Bony outside of the transfer window, Football Insider has learned.

Graham Potter’s side are keen on exploring the possibility of landing the centre-forward, 30, after his contract expired at Swansea City during the summer.

A Brighton source has told Football Insider that Potter is keen to be reunited with Bony and believes he could be a valuable addition to his squad.

The Ivory Coast international is available on a free transfer and has been training at League Two club Newport County to maintain his fitness.

He is keen to return to the Premier League, where he has scored 36 of his 52 goals in English football since first arriving in 2013 from Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem.

Bony was so prolific in his first spell at Swansea he earned a £28million transfer to Manchester City in 2015.

But that move did not work out and he returned to the Welsh club the following year for a cut-price £12million, spending half of last season under the management of Potter.

Bony has subsequently struggled with form and injuries, and spent the second half of last season on loan in Qatar.

In other Brighton news, it can be REVEALED how a club have agreed to sign an Albion attacker this week.
