Sources: Brighton set sights on signing Danny Ings from Aston Villa

Brighton have set their sights on signing Danny Ings from Aston Villa this summer, Football Insider understands.

Graham Potter’s side are in the market for a centre-forward going into the main window after struggling to score goals this season.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Ings, 29, is a target for Brighton as they target a proven Premier League operator.

Key for the Seagulls is to bring in an experienced campaigner with an impressive track record in the top division.

Ings fits the bill for the south-coast club although there chances of luring him from Villa Park depend on multiple factors.

This includes the stance of Steven Gerrard and Villa chiefs, who only signed Ings from Southampton last summer.

That deal cost £25million although, intriguingly, the striker only signed a three-year contract with the Midlands outfit.

He will have two years remaining when the summer window opens.

Villa have been one of the Premier League’s biggest spenders in recent years and once again demonstrated their ambition with the January signings of Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Digne.

Gerrard’s side are expected to spend big again in the upcoming summer and could have to sell some senior stars to help reshape their squad.

Ings has had a mixed season at Villa, where his 23 matches in all competitions have yielded five goals and five assists.

He has started the last five Premier League matches but has completed only two full games in the competition since October.
