Sources: Bristol City respond to Swansea City & Cardiff City approaches for Nahki Wells

Bristol City have turned down approaches from Swansea City and Cardiff City for Nahki Wells, Football Insider understands.

Championship rivals Cardiff and Swansea both made enquiries to Bristol City for Wells but the Robins have rebuffed their overtures.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Bristol City boss Nigel Pearson wants to keep Wells, 31, in his squad as they look to avoid a relegation battle in the second half of the season.

Bristol City

Wells has made 20 appearances in the Championship for Bristol City this season.

However, he has only started five games and has struggled to make an impact, only finding the net once.

He has only racked up 23 minutes of action across his last four outings for the club.

Wells signed a three-and-a-half-year deal when he joined City from Burnley in January 2020 meaning he is out of contract in the summer of 2023.

The attacker had his most prolific spell during his time at Huddersfield between 2014 and 2017.

He made 153 appearances for the Terriers, scoring 49 goals and chipping in with 13 assists.

Swansea and Cardiff are both fighting to avoid the drop into League One.

The Swans currently sit six points ahead of their rivals and have a game in hand.

Bristol City currently sit 16th in the Championship after drawing 2-2 with Preston on Saturday (29 January).

They are next in action against Blackpool on Saturday (5 February).
