Sources: Bruno Fernandes could have played last Man United game as transfer edges closer

Man United are increasingly likely to sell Bruno Fernandes in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The United star player, 31, is the subject of strong Saudi interest and there are clubs willing to offer him huge packages to complete a move next month.

Fernandes has already gone public to reveal United wanted to sell him in the summer transfer window to Saudi club Al-Hilal.

A new layer of complication was added to a potential January move after the midfielder suffered an injury during his team’s 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa.

But sources say the possibility is “greater than previously” that Fernandes could depart within weeks.

It is one of the last opportunities for United to secure a major fee for the playmaker, who has been the club’s star player during his six years at Old Trafford.

He could now have played his last match for United in what would be an extraordinary turn of events.

Man United make new Bruno Fernandes exit decision

Former United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in May that Man United planned to sell Fernandes after private discussions behind-the-scenes.

The midfielder’s recent bombshell interview confirmed that stance, with United keen to move him on to raise funds and invest in the team elsewhere.

Meanwhile, reports have claimed that the Portugal international has a £52.5million release clause which can be triggered by clubs outside of the Premier League.

Football Insider revealed in October that Fernandes does not plan to leave Man United in the mid-season window, but recent developments may have altered that position.

This comes after Bruno turned down Al Hilal’s offer during the summer as he planned to help United turn around their fortunes after a dreadful season last time out.

Why Fernandes could quit Man United in January

Football Insider revealed in September that Fernandes could be tempted to leave Man United if their performances do not show significant improvement.

Ruben Amorim’s side currently sit sixth in the Premier League after 18 games, a clear improvement on last season’s displays in what has been a positive turn.

A win against Newcastle last time out further secured their position, with the manager also easing pressure on his position at the helm.

However, there are still suggestions that Amorim is under pressure at Man United, while Fernandes’ recent public claims have set off new alarm bells.

In the meantime, Brown told Football Insider that Man United could accept offers for Fernandes as they aim to make room for big-money signings and further improve their side.
