Sources: Burnley open talks to sign ex-Man City star Carlos Forbs
Burnley are in talks with Ajax over a loan deal for winger Carlos Forbs, sources have told Football Insider.
Clarets boss Vincent Kompany is a big admirer of Forbs and is keen to bring him to Turf Moor before the close of the transfer window.
Discussions are underway over a deal that would see the wide man join Burnley on loan for the rest of the season.
But the club face competition from Premier League rivals including Nottingham Forest.
Forbs joined Ajax last summer for around £10million from Manchester City after impressing in City’s youth ranks.
The 19-year-old has made 25 appearances in all competitions for Ajax, chipping in two goals and four assists.
The Portugal under-21 international can play on both flanks but is most often fielded on the right wing.
Burnley, following a summer of heavy spending, are expected to be active in the loan market this month and are unlikely to bring in any permanent recruits.
They have already signed forward David Datro Fofana on loan from Chelsea after he was recalled from his season-long spell at Bundesliga side Union Berlin.
Now, they are looking to bring in Forbs to help improve their poor goal output.
With just 21 goals scored, Kompany’s side have the second-worst return in the Premier League so far this season with only Sheffield United below them.

Burnley sit 19th in the Premier League table after their 1-1 draw against Luton Town on Friday 12 January.
They are next in action against Man City away at the Etihad on Wednesday 31 January.
