Sources: Burnley schedule medical today for Swansea star Michael Obafemi

Swansea striker Michael Obafemi will undergo a medical at Burnley on Thursday ahead of a move, sources have told Football Insider.

The Clarets have come to an agreement with their Championship rivals to sign the 22-year-old on a loan deal until the end of the season.

As part of the deal, Burnley have an obligation to sign Obafemi on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

Should Obafemi depart Swansea, he’ll leave the Welsh side having scored an impressive 15 Championship goals in 51 appearances.

The young forward joined Swansea back in 2021 when they paid a £2million fee to Southampton for his services.

Obafemi started his career with the Saints, joining their youth academy in 2016 before breaking into the first team two years later.

He then spent a further three years gaining experience with the Southampton first team, scoring four times across his 32 league appearances for the side.

In the current season, Obafemi has found the back of the net three times in 19 appearances for the Swans.

He was tangled up in controversy at the start of the season, with manager Russell Martin openly criticising his attitude after the club rejected a number of bids in the summer from Burnley.

Martin told Obafemi he’d have to “earn his way back” into the squad, and as a result, Obafemi missed two Championship fixtures

He eventually did work his way back into contention but has not been involved in a Swansea matchday squad since before the World Cup break.
