Sources: Carlos Carvalhal in the frame to be new Burnley manager

Carlos Carvalhal is a contender to become the new Burnley manager, Football Insider understands.

The former Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City boss has impressed with Braga this season and led them to the Europa League quarter-finals.

A Burnley source has told Football Insider that the Portuguese, 56, has admirers within the corridors of power at Turf Moor.

He has previous experience of working in the Championship in case they suffer relegation and he also has European knowhow if the club do decide to look outside a UK-based appointment.

Carvalhal has managed 115 games as a manager in the second tier.

He averaged 1.58 points per game, as per Transfermarkt, only losing 31 of those 115 games.

His Premier League record is less flattering, only winning five games of 18 as manager of Swansea in the 2017/18 season.

After starting brightly and registering wins against Arsenal and Liverpool his side finished the season with a five-game losing streak that saw the Swans relegated.

Carvalhal’s record at Braga is considerably better, winning 55% of his 100 games in charge of the club.

This included a run to this season’s Europa League quarter-finals before being knocked out by Rangers.

Sean Dyche was sacked by the club on Friday (16 April) following a loss to bottom side Norwich.

Burnley drew 1-1 with West Ham in their first game without Dyche in the dugout (16 April).

They are next in Premier League action against Southampton on Thursday (21 April).
