Sources: Celtic finalise Postecoglou deal after six-figure compensation talks today

Celtic and Ange Postecoglou are finalising compensation with Yokohama F. Marinos today, Football Insider understands.

The Hoops are set to pay a six-figure sum to the Japanese side for luring the manager to Parkhead.

A source has told Football Insider Postecoglou will then be free to sign for Celtic and be appointed their new manager.

The Scottish giants are hopeful of making an announcement this week.

This site revealed on Saturday (29 May) that Postecoglou asked permission to quit Japanese club Yokohama F. Marinos after Celtic had presented him with an offer.

Celtic made the Greek-born Australian their top choice after talks with long-term target Eddie Howe broke down.

A statement from the club last Friday claimed a formal agreement could not be reached “for reasons outside both his and Celtic’s control”.

It now appears they are set to finally appoint a successor to Neil Lennon just over three months since he quit the club.

Postecoglou has enjoyed a 25-year managerial career but his only experience in Europe was in Greece’s third-tier in 2008.

He has been in charge of Yokohama F. Marinos for four-and-a-half years and led them to the J1 title in 2019.

The 55-year-old is best known for his spell as Australia’s manager where he guided them to the 2014 World Cup and their first Asian Cup title in 2015.

Celtic finished the season 25 points behind bitter rivals Rangers after entering the campaign hoping to secure a historic 10th consecutive title.

They also exited the Europa League at the group stages and failed in their defence of the Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup.

In other news, Celtic have made a move to sign a Premier League 24-year-old after a brilliant season and a part-exchange deal is possible.
