Sources: Celtic have clear Wilfried Nancy sack plan after humiliation

Celtic have no intention of sacking manager Wilfried Nancy any time soon despite Sunday’s humiliating Scottish League Cup final defeat at the hands of lowly St Mirren, sources have told Football Insider.

The Frenchman has had a dismal start to his reign with the Glasgow giants, but there are no plans from the club hierarchy to replace him just yet.

Celtic fans have heaped pressure on Nancy after three consecutive defeats to start his tenure, but sources say that the board at Parkhead are prepared to give him time to properly implement his ideas.

The Bhoys have two games in hand on Hearts at the top of the Premiership table, and Nancy will be afforded the opportunity to work towards closing that gap in the coming weeks.

Celtic fans unrest spills over onto Wilfried Nancy

Celtic fans have been hugely frustrated with the board this season, and the club’s annual AGM even had to be abandoned following discontent back in November.

The atmosphere at the club was briefly unified again during Martin O’Neill’s interim tenure, which coincided with a strong run of results on the pitch, but that has quickly become a distant memory.

Nancy’s spell in charge has opened with three difficult assignments, but he has failed all three, and the frustration from supporters is clear to see.

There is a feeling among the Celtic board at the moment that the fans’ frustration with them has spilt over into vitriol towards Nancy, despite him only being just under two weeks into the job.

St Mirren’s Premier Sports Cup win sparks Scottish football rarity

St Mirren beat Celtic 3-1 on Sunday afternoon to lift the Premier Sports Cup at Hampden Park, and their triumph has sparked a rare moment in Scottish football.

The recent struggles of the Old Firm have been well-publicised this term, with neither Celtic nor Rangers at their commanding and imposing best at the top of the table.

Both domestic cups are currently held by other clubs, with Aberdeen claiming last year’s Scottish Cup title.

Hearts are also unexpected leaders of the Premiership at the moment, and their campaign has shown no signs of slowing down after their win over Celtic ended their stuttering run of form.

For neither Old Firm club to currently hold a trophy or sit at the top of the league, is a hugely rare moment in Scottish football, and that will only be emphasised further if Hearts claim the title at the end of the season.
