Sources: Celtic plan to accept offer for James McCarthy
Celtic are planning to accept an offer for James McCarthy this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Hoops have been trying to offload McCarthy since last year but a move has failed to materialise.
The 32-year-old signed a four-year deal at Parkhead when he joined back in 2021 that is worth around £20,000-per-week.
The childhood Hoops fan is believed to be on good personal terms at the Glasgow club and is in no rush to depart, but the Celts are keen to get him off the wage bill.
McCarthy has made five appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s side across all competitions this season for a total of 62 minutes of football.
The midfielder has not featured for the Hoops since October and has fallen way down the pecking order with arrivals of key midfield players such as Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley, and Aaron Mooy.
Back in October, Football Insider revealed that the Celts were set to listen to offers for the Ireland international in the January window.
McCarthy ultimately remained at Parkhead but has not featured for the club since and they are now keen to ensure a permanent transfer in the summer.

The centre-mid joined the Hoops from Crystal Palace after two years with the Premier League club.
Prior to his stint at Palace, McCarthy spent six years at Everton but failed to hit the heights expected of him at the Glasgow giants.
In other news, Celtic fear beloved boss Ange Postecoglou has already decided to join Premier League club.
