Sources: Celtic ready to accept Stephen Welsh offer on one condition

Celtic are open to offers to sell Stephen Welsh this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 23-year-old has failed to cement a spot in Ange Postecoglou’s starting lineup this season and is now looking for a way out of Celtic Park.

Welsh came close to leaving Celtic in the January transfer window, but the Scottish giants opted to keep hold of him after a number of first-team stars suffered injuries.

Postecoglou understands Welsh’s frustrations and is open to letting him leave this summer, but he wants the Celtic hierarchy to sign a replacement before letting the young defender leave.

It is understood that there is interest building in Welsh’s signature from Scottish Premiership clubs and English Championship clubs ahead of the summer window.

Welsh is keen to join a club able to guarantee more playing time than he has received at Celtic this season.

Opportunities have proved hard to come by for the centre-back, with Postecoglou often preferring the duo of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt in the heart of his defence.

Welsh has made only six appearances for Celtic this season across all competitions, with his last match coming in October in the Champions League clash against RB Leipzig.

Prior to that, he made four league starts for the side in their first nine Premiership fixtures, but Postecoglou is yet to recall him to the starting lineup.

It is a huge decrease in playing time compared to the 2021/ss season when he played 2,019 minutes across 24 appearances.
