Sources: Celtic star James Forrest could now join MLS club after six offers tabled

Celtic legend James Forrest could yet leave the club in the coming months in an out-of-window deal, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (2 February) that Forrest, 32, rebuffed six offers on transfer deadline day – instead choosing to remain at Parkhead.

It is believed that most of those six proposals came from clubs in the English Championship.

The deadline has since passed, but a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Major League Soccer clubs are now monitoring the winger’s situation at Celtic.

The US window remains open until 23 April – two months after the MLS season kicks off later in February.

Forrest rebuffed moves south of the border to stay at boyhood club Celtic despite not being in favour under Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers.

He has made 18 appearances totalling 418 minutes of action so far in the 2023-24 campaign, scoring twice.

Forrest is Celtic’s longest-serving current player and has won 22 trophies during his time with the club – a total which could grow this season.

The Scotland international is under contract at Parkhead until June 2025.

Giorgos Giakoumakis swapped Celtic for MLS side Atlanta United last year (2023), becoming the latest Scottish Premiership star to go stateside.

Rodgers’ side sit top of the Scottish Premiership by five points but have played one game more than second-place Rangers.

Forrest and Celtic are next in action against Aberdeen on Saturday (3 February).
