Sources: Celtic ‘to consider’ big offer for Benjamin Nygren as Premier League interest builds

Celtic are set to “consider” the idea of selling midfielder Benjamin Nygren if they receive a “big offer” for him this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Bhoys remain desperate to keep hold of 24-year-old after an impressive debut season in the Scottish Premiership, and the club hierarchy are expecting the next manager to want to build the team around him.

Nygren is under contract at Celtic Park until the summer of 2029, but sources have indicated that he could be sold this summer, with interest in him building from the Premier League.

The midfielder has already notched 14 league goals and three assists since his move from Nordsjaelland last summer, and that has quickly prompted clubs south of the border to sit up and take notice.

Celtic could lose both Benjamin Nygren and Arne Engels this summer

Football Insider revealed earlier in February that Nottingham Forest’s interest in Arne Engels is unlikely to wane ahead of the summer, after they saw three bids rejected for the midfielder in January.

The Reds’ third offer on deadline day even reached the £25million mark, but the Bhoys deemed the 22-year-old as being too important to lose in the middle of the season.

He and Nygren have both been key performers for Celtic this term, with the Swede currently their top scorer in Scottish Premiership action, and Engels having started 17 league games prior to his recent injury.

However, with interest in the Premier League mounting in the duo, Celtic could be faced with some very difficult decisions in the summer.

It has already become clear that they no intention of losing either of their key midfielders, but if lucrative offers are put on the table for one or both of the duo, then they may prove difficult to resist.

Bhoys squad could be set for ‘massive overhaul’ this summer

Football Insider revealed last week that Celtic’s squad could be set for a “massive overhaul” when they appoint their new manager ahead of next season.

Roberto Martinez and Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou are currently the two leading candidates to take the reins at Parkhead, and the upcoming shift into a new era looks set to spark plenty of change.

The board are anticipating that either candidate will want to bring in plenty of new faces in order to mould the team into their image, while failure to secure Champions League qualification would likely drive the overhaul even further.

Celtic’s next move in terms of their managerial situation remains unclear at the moment, but it is becoming increasingly apparent that there will be a significant number of personnel changes on the footballing side of the club this summer.
