Sources: Charlton and Wycombe Wanderers plot January moves for Shane McLoughlin
League One duo Charlton and Wycombe Wanderers are plotting moves for Newport County ace Shane McLoughlin, sources have told Football Insider.
McLoughlin, 26, has been a revelation for Newport since his arrival from Salford on a free transfer in the summer.
The former Republic of Ireland youth international has been a standout performer for Newport this season with five goals and three assists in all competitions, despite playing in several different positions.
McLoughlin‘s form and versatility has alerted clubs higher up the football pyramid with Charlton and Wycombe both keen on making moves for the wide man in January.
He has made 25 appearances in all competitions already so far this season, playing as a defender on both flanks, at centre-back and in various midfield roles.
The New York-born ace, who moved to Ireland as a five-year-old, joined Salford from Morecambe on a free transfer in January but made just 11 Ammies appearances before leaving the club.
He has also played for Ipswich and Wimbledon in the EFL and has made the majority of his professional appearances in League One.
McLoughlin, who came through the academy ranks at Portman Road, is under contract at Newport until June 2025.
He represented Ireland at Under-16 and Under-18 level.

Newport sit 15th in League Two after 20 games of the 2023-24 campaign.
Meanwhile, Charlton and Wycombe are 10th and 15th respectively in the third tier having played fewer games than some of their rivals.
