Sources: Charlton Athletic in advanced talks to sign ex-Watford and Middlesbrough star Uche Ikpeazu

Charlton Athletic are in advanced talks to sign Port Vale striker Uche Ikpeazu, sources have told Football Insider.

Addicks boss Michael Appleton has made a new forward his top priority in this month’s transfer window and he has sanctioned a formal move for former Watford and Middlesbrough man Ikpeazu.

Negotiations are at an advanced stage and Charlton are hopeful of securing a breakthrough to get the deal completed.

The 28-year-old, who is in the final six months of his contract at Port Vale, has scored one goal in 11 appearances in League One so far this season.

His first goal came against Charlton at the Vale in their 3-3 draw earlier this month.

Ikpeazu joined Port Vale at the start of the season on a one-year deal after contract with Super Lig side Konyaspor was terminated in September.

The experienced striker has played for 13 different teams across his career with his most prolific coming with League Two Cambridge United in 2017-18 and Scottish top-flight side Hearts in 2018-19.

Charlton sit 13th in the League One table after a nine-game run without a win.

They are next in action against Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday (20 January).

Port Vale sit in 15th place in League One, on the same points as the Addicks, and next face Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
