Sources: Chelsea boss Pochettino makes Trevoh Chalobah decision after new development

Trevoh Chalobah does not feature in the plans of Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino and he has now been told he is free to leave this month, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the Blues see the 24-year-old as a saleable asset who could improve their Financial Fair Play situation if he was to make a move this month.

Chalobah has been out injured for the entirety of the 2023-24 campaign but in a recent development, he has hinted he is close to returning to full fitness.

The versatile defender posted to X (8 January) last week with a picture of him in training – flanked with the caption “I am healed in Jesus name”.

Chalobah suffered a hamstring problem in August and then had a setback on the Cobham training pitches in October.

He is yet to appear in a competitive game in the 2023-24 campaign.

Nevertheless, Napoli have been linked with a potential move for the former England Under-21 international amid their defensive problems.

Tottenham identified Chalobah as a target last year but eventually cooled their interest and have now signed Radu Dragusin.

The former Ipswich and Lorient loanee was a regular in the Chelsea side last season under the management of Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard – and made 33 senior appearances across all competitions.

He signed a fresh contract at Stamford Bridge in 2022, keeping him at the club until 2028.

Chalobah can play at centre-back, right-back and even in defensive midfield.

Chelsea

The likes of Axel Disasi, Levi Colwill and Benoit Badiashile have moved ahead of the 24-year-old in the pecking order under Pochettino.

Chelsea sit ninth in the Premier League table following their win over local rivals Fulham last time out (13 January).
