Sources: Chelsea in hunt to sign Petrovic

Chelsea have now turned their attention to signing MLS goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic as they target a remarkable 14th new signing, sources have told Football Insider.

The Serbia international, 23, has been closely watched by the Blues recruitment team while playing for New England Revolution in the United States.

Chelsea are in the market for a new number two who can deputise for new first choice Robert Sanchez, with Kepa Arrizabalaga leaving for Real Madrid.

It comes as they put the finishing touches to deals for midfielder Romeo Lavia and playmaker Michael Olise, who would become their 12th and 13th summer signings.

Football Insider first revealed the Londoners’ concrete interest in Olise – who was at Cobham as a youth – back on 25 July.

Chelsea have also completed moves for Moises Caicedo, Christoper Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Axel Disasi and many others so far this summer.

The Blues are also focusing on signing a goalkeeper and Petrovic has caught the eye in the past year with a string of strong outings for New England after signing from boyhood Serbian club Cukaricki in April 2022.

Chelsea previously entered the United States market to bring young goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina to Stamford Bridge last summer (2022).

The 19-year-old is yet to make a senior appearance for the Blues and has gone out on loan to Belgian outfit KAS Eupen for this season.

Meanwhile, two-time Serbia international Petrovic is currently under contract at New England Revolution until 2025.

He has played 40 times for his current employers and has managed to keep 13 clean sheets.
