Sources: Chelsea in Trevoh Chalobah transfer U-turn after new development
Chelsea are now willing to allow defender Trevoh Chalobah to leave the club on loan in the final days of the transfer window after a U-turn on their original plan, sources have told Football Insider.
The Blues had been keen to sell the 24-year-old this month to fund deals of their own in the mid-season window.
Chalobah is a Chelsea academy recruit, meaning any funds from a sale would be considered pure profit under Financial Fair Play rules.
However, the centre-back’s injury has meant a lack of permanent interest in January and the Stamford Bridge outfit are now ready to consider loan deals in a late-window U-turn.
In a new development, the former Lorient loanee has stepped up his return to action on the training pitch.
The former England Under-21 international is yet to appear in the 2023-24 campaign so far following a serious hamstring injury in pre-season and a setback in October.
Chelsea are hoping Chalobah’s performances out on loan will put him in the shop window and lead to a permanent exit in the summer window. He has previously been of strong interest to the likes of Tottenham and Bayern Munich.
The defender only signed a fresh six-year contract at Stamford Bridge in 2022 but is now out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino.
Axel Disasi, Levi Colwill and Benoit Badiashile have all now moved ahead of the 24-year-old in the pecking order under Pochettino.

Chalobah has racked up 63 appearances for Chelsea since coming through the club’s youth system.
Pochettino’s side sit ninth in the Premier League table and will face Liverpool in the League Cup final next month.
