Sources: Chelsea make contact with Julian Nagelsmann

Chelsea have made contact with Julian Nagelsmann in a sensational twist to their next manager pursuit, sources have told Football Insider.

The German, 35, is the club’s number one target to take over from Graham Potter after his Sunday night dismissal.

That has opened the door for Chelsea to move for Nagelsmann as they begin yet another managerial search.

The cost of sacking Potter and his coaching staff will not stop the mega-spending Blues from another hugely expensive managerial hire.

The Todd Boehly-led club are as ambitious as ever and are prepared to pay what it takes to land the right man.

Nagelsmann is regarded as the right profile by Chelsea, and someone who has the personality and cachet to manager one of the world’s elite clubs.

His recent dismissal by Bayern Munich will not put off the Blues hierarchy from attempting to lure him to Stamford Bridge.

The 35-year-old was sacked by the German club last month and replaced by former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.

Nagelsmann had guided Bayern to a Champions League quarter-final and second in the Bundesliga before being dismissed.

Under Tuchel, the German giants have returned to top spot in the league, two points clear of Borussia Dortmund.

The hierarchy of the club were concerned with a lack of player development and believed the team had moved backwards in the league under Nagelsmann.

The former Bayern boss has also been linked with the vacant manager’s job at Tottenham.

But, on Saturday (1 April), Football Insider revealed that Nagelsmann is worried joining Spurs could “damage” his career.

It is believed by those close to the German that the Lilywhites face a huge task in trying to convince him to join and it’s currently seen as a long shot.

In other news, Chelsea set for face-to-face midfielder talks soon.
