Sources: Chelsea put six first-team mainstays up for sale

Chelsea are preparing to sell as many as six first-team regulars this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Blues have placed Hakim Ziyech, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Conor Gallagher, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang up for sale.

The London giants have spent over £600million in two transfer windows under Todd Boehly, with the club spreading out costs over long-term contracts for stars such as Mykhaylo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez.

But Chelsea are set to struggle with Financial Fair Play regulations after their significant spending over the last 12 months, with the club needing to raise funds in order to spend big again in the upcoming window.

The Blues board have put the six stars up for sale in hopes that it will balance the club’s finances and help trim the squad.

Chelsea recorded losses of £121.3million in their latest accounts, and Football Insider sources revealed on Thursday (20 April) that Chelsea are set to miss out on a minimum of £52million if they don’t qualify for any European competition this season.

Not only are Chelsea facing financial issues, but their new signings over the last year have inflated the squad size and caused issues behind the scenes.

The Athletic reported that Chelsea’s squad had grown so large that former boss Graham Potter had to have players sit on the floor in the dressing room.

Chelsea’s first-team squad is in desperate need of cutting down, and the club’s board believe six players being offloaded this summer will be a good start to a planned mass overhaul.
