Sources: Chelsea reach full agreement with Christopher Vivell

Chelsea have agreed to appoint Christopher Vivell as their new technical director, sources have told Football Insider.

The 36-year-old has finalised terms with the Premier League giants following extensive negotiations.

Chelsea are expected to announce Vivell’s arrival soon as they continue the lavishly-funded overhaul of their recruitment team under owner Todd Boehly.

Vivell was sacked by Leipzig in October, which came after holding a meeting with Stamford Bridge bosses the same week.

Chelsea have held talks with multiple candidates for the key recruitment role including former Liverpool director of football Michael Edwards.

But Edwards is closing in on a move to Man United when his year-long sabbatical ends next summer.

Football Insider revealed on Thursday (15 December) that new co-director of recruitment and talent Joe Shields is set to take up his recruitment role at Chelsea on 1 February after coming to an agreement with Southampton.

After appointing Graham Potter as manager earlier this season, Boehly has continued the raid on Brighton by appointing head of recruitment Paul Winstanley in the role of director of global talent and transfers.

Vivell is now set to join the Blues in a technical director role as the American businessman targets a first Premier League title since the 2016-17 season.

The 36-year-old is widely credited with helping RB Salzburg secure the signing of now-Man City striking sensation Erling Haaland.

Chelsea

Chelsea have already reportedly agreed to sign RB Leipzig star man Christopher Nkunku next summer (2023), with a medical said to have been completed earlier this season.

The Blues, who sit eighth in the Premier League, return to action against Bournemouth on 27 December.

In other news, insider claims Armando Broja could return within months after Chelsea update.
