Sources: Chelsea to terminate Familia-Castillo’s Birmingham deal and secure new move
Chelsea are set to recall Juan Familia-Castillo from Birmingham City and send him out on a new loan, Football Insider understands.
The left-back, 21, agreed a season-long loan to the Championship club in the summer transfer window after signing a new deal at Stamford Bridge.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that both parties are willing to terminate the deal to allow Chelsea to send him out on loan elsewhere.
Familia-Castillo has struggled for minutes at Birmingham, making just five first-team appearances this season.
Kristian Pedersen and Jeremie Bela have been Lee Bowyer’s preferred choices at left wing-back.
As such, the Chelsea loanee has started just one league game – the 2-1 defeat to QPR on January 2nd.

Familia-Castillo returned to the bench and was left as an unused substitute for Birmingham’s FA Cup defeat to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday (8 January).
Chelsea are keen for the promising defender to get meaningful first-team minutes under his belt in 2022.
As such, they have made the decision to recall the Netherlands youth international from St Andrews.
The Blues will then look to ship him out temporarily for the rest of the season.
Familia-Castillo began his youth career in the famed Ajax academy before joining Chelsea back in 2016.
He rejoined the Dutch giants on loan for the 2019/20 campaign.
The Chelsea starlet has also had spells at AZ Alkmaar and ADO Den Haag.
He then joined Birmingham back in July.
He made his debut as a substitute on the opening day of the season but has made just two other league appearances.
Despite his experience in the Netherlands, Familia-Castillo is still yet to make his senior debut for Chelsea.
