Sources: Chelsea turn attention to signing Lautaro Martinez as Pochettino plan revealed
Incoming Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is targetting a move for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez in an attempt to fix the club’s goalscoring problems, sources have told Football Insider.
The ex-Spurs manager’s Stamford Bridge arrival is set to be announced in the coming days, and he is believed to be a “huge fan” of Martinez.
A prolific striker has been identified by Pochettino as one of the priorities in what is likely to be another hectic transfer window.
Chelsea have been widely linked with moves for the likes of Tottenham striker Harry Kane and Napoli hitman Victor Osimhen.
However, Football Insider revealed last week (11 May) that a move for Osimhen is set to go on the backburner despite the player’s willingness to move to the Premier League.
Sources with knowledge of the situation have revealed that the Blues will now turn attention to Martinez, who is seen as a more affordable and attainable option.
The 48-cap Argentina international has been instrumental in the 2022-23 campaign for Inter – who are set to qualify for the Champions League next season.
He has notched 24 goals and 10 assists in 51 games across all competitions for the Nerazzurri this term.
Martinez, who joined Inter in 2018, also helped Argentina lift the 2022 World Cup in Qatar – making six appearances in the tournament.
Football Insider revealed last week (10 May) that Man United are actively monitoring the situation of the red-hot forward as the summer window approaches.

Chelsea have struggled to find the net throughout the 2022-23 campaign, a problem which has contributed to the club’s lowly 11th-place league position.
The Blues’ top scorers, Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling, have managed a meagre return of just nine goals each across all competitions.
