Sources: Conor Gallagher wants to sign new Chelsea deal

Conor Gallagher wants to sign a new deal at Chelsea as uncertainty over his future continues, sources have told Football Insider.

The 23-year-old was told he could leave Stamford Bridge in the summer window but a well-placed source has told Football Insider that he has no plans to leave in the near future.

West Ham and Tottenham both held an interest in signing the England international but a move failed to materialise before the 1 September deadline.

Chelsea

Gallagher is currently out of contract in June 2025 and manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed an extension is the “club’s decision”.

He said the midfielder “is the type of player that the club needs to have as he knows the identity of the club”.

The 23-year-old signed his last contract extension in 2020 and it is believed he is keen to seal a new long-term deal at Stamford Bridge.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Pochettino wants to keep Gallagher at Stamford Bridge – but he is a player Chelsea could bank a huge profit on.

His home-grown status means the Blues could record pure profit in the Financial Fair Play books, allowing them to make further signings.

Gallagher has captained the club regularly this season in the injury absence of appointed skipper Reece James.

Chelsea

He has made 16 appearances in the Premier League this season, notching four assists.

Chelsea have been cut adrift of the elite division’s top four clubs after winning just six of their first 17 games this term.
