Sources: Conte wanted Tottenham to get rid of three British first teamers this summer

Antonio Conte was pushing Tottenham to sell three first-team stars before he was sacked, sources have told Football Insider.

The Italian made it clear to the Spurs board that he wanted to offload Ben Davies, Oliver Skipp and Fraser Forster this summer.

Conte highlighted that the trio were part of a failing British core at the club that he felt were “not good enough for Spurs,” sources have told Football Insider.

The north London club ended up sacking Conte in March after he lashed out at his squad following a draw with Southampton.

The home-grown players quota in the Premier League meant Spurs had to keep hold of British-reared players for the current campaign as, under current rules, no more than 17 players in a senior squad can be non-homegrown.

Tottenham allowed Steven Bergwijn, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Matt Doherty to leave the club in January but kept hold of the British trio Conte wanted gone in the next window.

Since the Italian’s sacking, Davies, Skipp and Forster have all played a key part in the Spurs first team.

Davies has racked up 25 Premier League appearances for the North London side but has missed out on the club’s last four league games.

Skipp has seen his game time increase considerably since Conte’s sacking, with the 22-year-old starting nine consecutive league matches for Tottenham.

The central midfielder signed a new deal with the club last week, extending his stay in North London until 2027.

Forster also found himself back in the starting line-up after an injury to club captain Hugo Lloris.
