Sources: Derby County in talks to sign Stoke City star Aden Flint

Derby County are in talks to sign soon-to-be-out-of-contract Stoke City defender Aden Flint, sources have told Football Insider.

Flint, 33, is out of favour at Stoke and has not featured for Alex Neil’s side since October.

Stoke are open to letting the former Cardiff man leave to free up space in their squad for their own potential signings.

Derby

Derby boss Paul Warne is keen to bolster his defensive options in this month’s transfer window and sees Flint’s experience as key to his plans as they battle for promotion from League One.

Flint played every minute of nine of Stoke’s first 11 league games this season before he was dropped to the bench and eventually dropped from matchday squads completely.

The defender only moved to the Potters from Cardiff in the summer of 2022, signing a one-year deal with the club.

That followed a full season of regular football at Cardiff City, in which he started 35 of the club’s 46 Championship games.

Flint spent three seasons at Cardiff after joining the club from Middlesbrough, where he was also a regular.

He is best known for the five seasons he spent at Bristol City, in which he made 246 appearances across both League One and The Championship.

Stoke

Derby County sit fourth in League One after a 3-2 win over Cheltenham on Saturday (14 January).

The Rams are next in action against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday (21 January).

In other news, sources have told this site that Aston Villa keeper Filip Marschall has agreed to join Gateshead as medical completed.
