Sources: Door opens for Everton to agree surprise move for Said Benrahma

Everton are monitoring the situation of West Ham star Said Benrahma late in the mid-season transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that signing a new winger has been a priority for Toffees boss Sean Dyche throughout January.

And the door could soon open for Benrahma, 28, to make the move with West Ham poised to sign FC Nordsjaelland winger Ibrahim Osman – pending an agreement on a fee – before the 1 February deadline.

Ligue 1 clubs Lyon and Marseille have been leading the race to sign Benrahma, and as revealed by Football Insider earlier this month, have held talks over a deal.

It is understood that the forward has been given the green light by David Moyes to leave the London club this month, with a £20million asking price.

Irons star Benrahma has struggled to hold down a regular starting role during the 2023-24 campaign and any further arrivals would only push him down the pecking order under David Moyes.

Cash-strapped Everton could now swoop in and provide what, given their financial restrictions, would be a surprise Premier League escape for the Algeria international, who was not selected to play for his country at the African Cup of Nations.

It is believed the Toffees will face competition for the winger’s signature.

Benrahma has played 22 times across all competitions this season – including 13 starts – but is yet to find the net.

The ex-Brentford man has notched 15 goals and 16 assists in 110 total Premier League games since making the move to West Ham in 2020.

He is under contract at the London Stadium until June 2026.

Everton are on the hunt for more attacking firepower on a budget after they were deducted 10 points earlier this season for breaking Financial Fair Play rules – and charged with another, separate breach just weeks later.

Dyche’s side are 17th in the table – just one point outside the drop zone.

Meanwhile, West Ham sit sixth in the Premier League and will play Europa League knockout stage football from March.
