Sources: Douglas Luiz’s Aston Villa price to drop in the summer
Douglas Luiz’s price tag is set to drop in next summer’s transfer window if he does not sign a new contract at Aston Villa, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (18 December) that Arsenal are set to push to land Luiz, 25, at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that a January swoop for the Brazil international “looks impossible” with Villa set to ask for around £100million, and possibly even more, for his signature.

However, Luiz will have just two years left to run on his Villa Park deal when the season comes to a conclusion and it is believed his valuation will drop accordingly if there is no progress made on a new agreement.
The Midlands giants are currently under no pressure to sell following their strong start to the season and the club’s cash-rich owners are providing a healthy backing – meaning there is no need to raise big funds by selling key men.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Luiz remains a key part of Unai Emery’s plans despite his contract situation.
Arsenal have previously made concerted moves to sign Luiz and had more than two bids rejected for him in 2022’s summer window.
It is believed Gunners sporting director Edu is a big fan of his countryman – who also has lots of other admirers at the Emirates Stadium.
Man City are among the other sides to hold a strong interest in the midfielder.
Luiz has made 26 appearances across all competitions so far this term, notching six goals and four assists.

He is a regular feature in the Brazil set-up ahead of next year’s Copa America and has already made 10 appearances for his country.
Villa trail Arsenal by just one point at the summit of the Premier League.
In other news, defender’s Aston Villa deal could be terminated.
