Sources: Eddie Howe pushes Newcastle United to complete Harvey Barnes deal
Newcastle United are pushing to complete a deal for Leicester City star Harvey Barnes, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed the Magpies are keen to add a wide attacker this summer and have stepped up their interest in Barnes, 25, in recent days.
Newcastle and manager Eddie Howe believe the England international fits the profile of player they are looking to bring to St James’ Park as they become a force in the Premier League.
A well-placed source has revealed Barnes‘ age and extensive top-flight experience is behind Howe’s willingness to strike a deal.
Aston Villa, West Ham and Tottenham have also been widely linked with a possible move for the Leicester academy product.
He managed a healthy return of 13 goals and three assists in 40 games across all competitions last term – despite the Foxes’ relegation to the Championship.
His contract at the King Power Stadium runs until June 2025.
Barnes has made a total of 187 appearances for Leicester, notching 45 goals and 32 assists.
His form was rewarded with a first England call-up in October 2020, which produced the winger’s only senior cap.
Leicester have already allowed one senior star to leave for the Premier League this summer, with James Maddison sealing a move to Tottenham despite long-term interest from Newcastle.
Youri Tielemans has joined Aston Villa on a free transfer after his King Power Stadium contract expired last month.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have completed a deal for Italy international midfielder Sandro Tonali.
The Magpies will play Champions League football in the 2023-24 campaign.
