Sources: Eric Dier plotting Tottenham U-turn as new offer revealed

Tottenham defender Eric Dier is likely to seriously consider a potential reunion with Jose Mourinho at Roma if their reported interest materialises, sources have told Football Insider.

Dier, 29, has been linked with a potential move to the Italian giants in recent days.

This news comes as Football Insider revealed (29 September) that the defender does not feature in Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham plans despite his return to the bench for recent games.

Wolves

Dier is yet to play a single minute of action in the 2023-24 campaign, but was on the substitutes bench for recent games against Sheffield United and Arsenal.

Tottenham were ready to allow him to leave the club in the summer window, but a move failed to materialise.

It is believed the England international had offers but chose to remain at Spurs with less than 12 months to run on his contract.

He was originally planning to run down his contract and leave for free at the end of the season – but could now consider a reunion with former boss Mourinho in Rome.

Dier made 57 appearances under the legendary coach during their overlapping time at Spurs, playing both at centre-back and in holding midfield.

The 29-year-old was also a regular under ex-boss Antonio Conte but has fallen out of favour under new manager Ange Postecoglou.

Cristian Romero and summer signing Micky van de Van have built a good partnership at the heart of the defence under the Australian.

Tottenham

Tottenham sit fourth in the Premier League after picking up 14 points from a possible 18.

They face Liverpool at home on Saturday (30 September).
