Sources: Everton make deadline-day moves to sign five players
Everton are working on a deadline-busting deal to sign a central midfielder on loan and have made multiple enquiries, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed that the Toffees do not have the funds to pay a loan fee, meaning they have resorted to scouring the market for players not currently getting regular minutes.
Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that the club have made enquiries for up to five players and are waiting to receive responses.
The Toffees are eager for a new central midfielder before the window shuts and it is believed that they have made contact with at least two Premier League sides.
They have no scope to bring in permanent additions before the end of the window amid the financial chaos at Goodison Park.
Cash-strapped Everton have not made any additions in the current window but have been eyeing loan deals to strengthen their squad to help them escape the relegation battle.
Following their 10-point deduction in November, the club have been dealt a second charge for breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, which has forced them to restrict their spending.
Sources also told Football Insider last month (26 January) that Everton are still searching for a wide man and a centre-back as the 1 February transfer deadline approaches.

Everton slipped into the relegation zone after Luton Town’s 4-0 thrashing of Brighton on Tuesday (30 January).
They are next in action at Goodison Park against Tottenham on Saturday afternoon (3 February).
