Sources: Everton tell Salomon Rondon to find new club after exit talks

Everton have told striker Salomon Rondon he is free to find a new club in January after failing to secure a move this month to Turkey, sources have told Football Insider.

This site revealed last month (30 August) that the Merseysiders informed the 33-year-old he could leave despite Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury.

Rondon held talks with Adana Demirspor among multiple Turkish Super Lig clubs keen on signing him but could not secure an agreement before the 8 September transfer deadline.

The former Newcastle United star came on for the last minute of the Premier League win over West Ham before the international break.

But Rondon is set to slip further down the pecking order when Calvert-Lewin returns after the international break.

Manager Frank Lampard has made up his mind to let him go in January and does not see a role for him up until then.

In total, Rondon has scored three goals in 28 games for the Toffees.

He was a figure of ridicule in the final weeks of the 2021-22 season after getting sent off against Brentford.

The Venezuelan was on the pitch for just four minutes before making a lunging two-footed tackle on Rico Henry that saw him receive his marching orders.

As a result, he was suspended for the opening weekend of the current season.

After his Newcastle United loan expired, Rondon moved to Chinese club Dalian, reuniting with former Magpies boss Rafael Benitez.

He then moved to CSKA Moscow before once again reuniting with Benitez at Everton in August 2021.

Rondon remains a popular figure on Tyneside after scoring 12 goals in 33 appearances during the 2018-19 season and winning Newcastle’s Player of the Year award.
