Sources: Everton work on signing Andre Ayew in out-of-window deal

Everton are exploring an out-of-window deal for Andre Ayew, sources have told Football Insider.

The Merseysiders had the forward, 33, as a back-up option on deadline day as multiple potential deals collapsed for various different reasons.

Ayew is one player who can be signed outside of the window as he is a free agent following his exit last week from Qatari club Al Sadd.

Everton are in touch with Ayew’s camp as they look at a potential free transfer to boost what are relatively thin attacking options for new boss Sean Dyche.

Ayew, formerly of West Ham and Swansea, offers a cheap and reliable goalscoring alternative with a lack of recognised strikers available to the club.

The Ghanaian attacker scored 21 goals in 89 appearances in the English top flight.

He started his career in France with Marseille, where he graduated from the youth academy in 2007 and went on to spend eight years with the club.

He made over 150 league appearances for the French outfit, scoring 44 times in the process.

His first taste of the Premier League came in 2015 when Swansea City announced that Ayew was joining on a free transfer.

After just one season in Wales, he made a switch to West Ham for what was then a club-record fee of £20.5million.

However, Ayew endured a frustrating spell in east London plagued with injuries and ended up returning to Swansea after just two seasons with the Hammers.

After a further three seasons with the Swans – one of which was spent on loan at Turkish club Fenerbahce – Ayew departed for Qatar in 2021, signing for Al Sadd on a free transfer.
