Sources: French clubs plotting to sign Leeds player once dubbed ‘outstanding’ by Daniel Farke

Leeds have had a solid start to life back in the Premier League as they prepare their upcoming transfer business to maintain their top-flight status.

Daniel Farke is keen for squad improvements with sources telling Football Insider that Leeds are targeting a winger and an attacking midfielder in January.

Leeds remain interested in summer target Harry Wilson with contract talks between Fulham and the player stalling, Football Insider exclusively revealed.

The Welshman is out of contract in the summer and his arrival at Elland Road could be timed with the exit of a forgotten man at the club.

Illan Meslier could be Italy bound after Leeds fall from grace

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Illan Meslier is intending to leave the Peacocks in one of the upcoming transfer windows.

Sources told Football Insider on 27 September that Meslier is in control of his Leeds future with his contract set to expire next summer as clubs across Europe monitor his situation including Inter Milan.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “I’m sure there’ll be clubs looking at Meslier, there’ll be clubs from abroad who’d probably be looking at the Frenchman.

“There’s been reported interest from Inter Milan potentially on a free, they do like to sign players on free contracts, as I said, saves them a lot of money.

“I think they’ll be interest in some French clubs as well.

“As it stands right now, think it’ll be difficult for Leeds to try sell him in January just due to his contract situation and the player himself knowing that he’s third choice there, he’s probably happy to sit out his contract and leave for free at the end of the season.”

Inter Milan should reconsider Meslier pursuit over worrying decline

Once heralded by Farke as an “outstanding” shot stopper that seemed undroppable (Leeds Live, 3.01pm, 17 February 2024), the Frenchman’s decline has been alarming.

The number 16 has not played a competitive game for the Whites since 29 March with Lucas Perri and Karl Darlow far more dependable.

Yet, his poor form has not deterred clubs across Europe going after him which is rather surprising.

For instance, Rangers were interested in Meslier over the summer which highlights he is still highly thought as he searches for his next employer.
